FAQ
Answering your questions on chiropractic care
If you have a question that is not answered below, please call Victoria East Chiropractic Clinic at 306-525-6977. Our reception team will be happy to help.
Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?
No. Chiropractors are primary-contact healthcare professionals, so you do not need a referral from a medical doctor to book an appointment.
Some insurance plans may require a prescription or referral for services such as massage therapy or custom orthotics. Because plans differ, we recommend confirming your coverage directly with your insurance provider.
What can I expect at my first chiropractic appointment?
Your chiropractor will review your health history, discuss your concerns and goals, and perform a physical examination. The assessment may include evaluation of your movement, joints, muscles and nervous system, along with other appropriate clinical tests.
Your chiropractor will explain the findings and discuss treatment recommendations with you. If your condition requires medical investigation, imaging or care from another healthcare professional, an appropriate referral may be recommended.
Will I receive treatment during my first appointment?
Treatment can often begin during the first appointment, but this depends on your examination findings and whether treatment is appropriate that day.
Before proceeding, your chiropractor will explain the recommended care, expected benefits, relevant risks and available alternatives. Treatment will only begin with your consent.
Is every patient treated the same way?
No. Care is based on your examination findings, health history, activities and personal goals.
Treatment may include chiropractic adjustments, soft-tissue therapy, rehabilitative exercises, activity advice, laser therapy, therapeutic ultrasound, acupuncture or other appropriate approaches. Not every treatment is suitable or necessary for every patient.
How many appointments will I need?
The number and frequency of appointments vary according to your condition, its duration and severity, your goals and how you respond to care.
Your practitioner will recommend an initial plan, monitor your progress and adjust that plan when appropriate. We do not use one predetermined schedule for every patient.
What conditions do chiropractors commonly assess?
Chiropractors commonly assess musculoskeletal concerns such as:
- Back and neck pain
- Headaches associated with the neck
- Joint and muscle pain
- Sports and activity-related injuries
- Workplace and motor vehicle collision injuries
- Movement restrictions
- Some foot and lower-limb concerns
- Symptoms associated with concussion and accompanying neck injuries
An assessment is needed to determine whether chiropractic care is appropriate for your particular concern. When another type of care is required, your chiropractor can recommend an appropriate referral.
Are there risks associated with chiropractic treatment?
All healthcare treatments have potential benefits and risks. Some patients experience temporary tenderness, stiffness or a short-term increase in discomfort following manual treatment.
Your chiropractor will discuss the recommended treatment, relevant risks and available alternatives before obtaining your consent. Please ask questions or tell your practitioner if you are uncomfortable with any proposed treatment. Your treatment can be modified or stopped at any time.
Do you treat children and patients during pregnancy?
Yes. Our practitioners care for patients of different ages and stages of life, including children and patients during pregnancy.
Care is adapted to the patient’s age, health history, examination findings and comfort. A parent or legal guardian must provide consent for treatment of a minor when required.
What can I expect at my first massage therapy appointment?
Your massage therapist will review your health history, discuss your concerns and goals, and assess the areas relevant to your treatment.
Your therapist will explain the proposed treatment and obtain your consent before beginning. Please tell your therapist about any health conditions, injuries, medications, allergies or areas you do not want treated.
What should I wear or bring to my appointment?
Comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily is helpful. Please bring any relevant reports, imaging results, medication information, insurance details or claim information that may assist with your assessment.
For a custom orthotics assessment, bring the footwear you use most frequently, along with any athletic or work shoes connected to your symptoms.
Do you offer direct billing?
We offer direct billing to many insurance companies when the patient’s plan permits it. Coverage, deductibles, annual limits and requirements vary between plans.
Direct billing does not guarantee that an insurer will pay the entire fee. Patients are responsible for confirming their coverage and paying any amount not covered by their plan.
How is acupuncture submitted to insurance?
Acupuncture at our clinic is performed by a chiropractor as part of her professional scope of practice. These appointments are therefore submitted under chiropractic coverage rather than coverage for a Doctor of Acupuncture or Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner.
Please confirm the details of your individual plan with your insurance provider before booking.
Do you treat WCB and SGI injury claims?
Yes. Our practitioners provide care for approved workplace and motor vehicle collision injury claims.
For a new WCB or SGI injury, please book an initial appointment—even if you are already a patient at our clinic. This provides enough time to assess the new injury and complete the necessary paperwork.
Massage therapy is not automatically approved under a WCB claim. WCB authorization and a referral from an actively treating chiropractor, physiotherapist or occupational therapist are required before covered massage therapy begins.
Please tell reception that your appointment relates to a WCB or SGI claim and provide your claim information when available.
How do I complete my new-patient forms?
When booking online through Jane, you will be asked to create an account and complete the appropriate electronic intake forms.
Please complete your forms before arriving whenever possible. This allows your practitioner to review the information and helps keep your appointment on schedule.
How do I cancel or reschedule an appointment?
Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Appointments more than 24 hours away may generally be changed through your Jane account. For appointments within 24 hours, please call the clinic.
Missed appointments or late cancellations may be subject to a cancellation fee. We understand that unexpected illnesses and emergencies sometimes occur and will consider those circumstances when applying the policy.
How can I book an appointment?
You can book online through our Jane booking portal or call our reception team at 306-525-6977.
If you are unsure which appointment type or practitioner to select, please call us and we will help you choose the appropriate option.
