Custom foot orthotics are individually made shoe inserts designed to support your feet, redistribute pressure and improve comfort during standing, walking, work or exercise.
At Victoria East Chiropractic Clinic, Dr. Shane Taylor and Dr. Colton MacLean provide custom orthotic assessments. The goal is to determine whether your foot mechanics may be contributing to your symptoms and whether custom orthotics are an appropriate option for you.
Could custom orthotics help me?
Custom orthotics may be considered for concerns such as:
-
Heel or arch pain
-
Plantar fasciitis
-
Pain in the ball of the foot
-
Discomfort associated with flat feet or high arches
-
Recurring foot, ankle or lower-leg discomfort
-
Symptoms that become worse with prolonged standing, walking or activity
Not everyone experiencing foot or lower-limb pain requires custom orthotics. Depending on your assessment, we may also recommend footwear changes, exercises, an over-the-counter insert, other treatment or referral to another healthcare provider.
What does an assessment involve?
Your appointment may include:
-
A review of your symptoms, activities and goals
-
Examination of your feet and lower limbs
-
Assessment of foot and ankle movement
-
Observation of how you stand and walk
-
Review of your usual footwear
If custom orthotics are recommended, they will be made according to your individual assessment and needs. We will also explain how to gradually become accustomed to them and when follow-up or adjustments may be required.
Insurance coverage
Coverage for custom orthotics varies between insurance plans. Before your appointment, check whether your provider requires a prescription, specific assessment documentation or information about the orthotic manufacturer.
